the cat was making some pretty persistant, mournful meowing noises outside so i went out to investigate. turns out she wasn't mourning, she was sort of celebrating; she'd got another bird. she flicked it around a bit, leaping and jumping after the carcass that would sometimes get caught in the breeze and drift further than her little swipes would otherwise take it. then she settled down to the task of eating the body. i started to watch her do this -- starting with the crunchy yellow-green head -- because last time it was pretty interesting to watch. this time, however, it was just kind of macabre and i felt unusual observing her so i left her to it.
