in my third year of flatting we got a flat cat. she was kind of small and silver and fast, we called her miss mary winks. we named her that after a poster of the front page of the new york times that was on our toilet wall that had a list of the titanic survivors on it, soon after it sank. one of the survivors was miss mary winks. we rescued winks so i guess we thought she was a survivor too. anyway it took a long time for us to realise but we'd actually named her wrong. the survivor's name was miss mary wicks, not miss mary winks. anyway by then the name had stuck, she was known forever forth as miss mary winks.
then we had flat dramas, one of the flatmates got pretty annoyed at us for not being single and stole miss mary winks. then we felt bad that we weren't single and he was so we let him keep her. well, turns out miss mary winks was actually super old and had lots of vet bills and he had to get her put down. and he didn't tell us until sort of way after the fact. and he was all like, oh yeah by the way miss mary winks is dead.
